Welcome to the new and improved MessageBoard v2.1.

So after painstakingly attempting to transfer the flat file database to my MySQL server with nothing but failures I've decided the best thing to do would be to roll out with an empty board and let you guys fill it up again. As you can tell the new board has some added functions and features.

First things first lets talk about the side menus. These are little things that i've added to the right and left side of the window they contain post information, user information, theres a calendar there (still trying to get it to link with the big one), links section, and shoutbox. These side panes are collapsible! there are two what look like minus signs next to the top navigation boar that will collapse either side as a whole so you don't have to see it. Also each section is individually collapsible so if you don't like a feature or its taking up too much room, shrink it so you don't have to see it.

Now lets talk about new features, such as the calendar. The calender is pretty neat, i found the code somwhere (its been so long i forgot) but it enables you to add events to a day or group of days. These events can link to a post also. Lets say for instance we have a weekend planned for upstate, i'll post the weekend that its going to be, link it with a post so we can organize who's going, who's driving and iron out all the details. This can also work for parties and such. There are two ways you can view this, either by pulling up the calendar and seeing the event, clicking on the event will give you the option to navigate to the post, or if your just browsing posts you will see on top where it says this post is linked with the event blah blah blah on such and such a day.

The Shoutbox/Chat Room combination is a great way to communicate with people that are on the message board without using a third party application (AIM, Meebo.com, Gmail...) to chat with one another. The Shoutbox is visible while in posts and while navigating around the board so you can just type in there and talk with people while posting. If its an extended conversation you can head over to the Chat room (Chat link located on top) to talk with anyone else thats in there, its like http://www.tonytwotoes.com/Chat only intergrated into the board so you don't have to navigate away.

I have added a Links box to the left side so you can navigate to other sites of interest. The code thats being used will open the link in a new window, so lets say for instance you were talking about a movie you saw on youtube in your post and you wanted to see if you can grab the link or ***Embed info, you can safely click the link to get the page up find what you need and your message thats half written remains intact.

Since I've mentioned it, embedding is finally here! The code to get it to work is simple, all you need is the embed information from any of the sites that provide it and encapsulate it in

tags.
